I just purchased a samsung 850 ssd today and after plugging it in my pc was fine. No problems with booting, the new SSD was recognized immediatly. Besides this SSD I also have another SSD just for windows + a HDD.

So I went ahead and try to create a new partition to start using the drive, that's when the problems started. Windows gave an error that the ssd could not be formatted. Tried it about 3 times and failed everytime, so I thought maybe windows was the problem, tried another program but that didn't work either.

The next thing I did was restart my pc, went fine the first time, however I still couldn't get the ssd to create a partition and work properly. The second time I restarted, windows stopped booting, I went back and checked the UEFI, the new ssd was still showing as connected and my main ssd was still first priority for booting.

Ive tried to restart a few times and after a while it gave me the windows is corrupted/broken screen instead of showing nothing at all. However when I remove the new SSD, windows loads just fine without any problems at all.

Solution
check your boot device priority order, and ensure your OS drive is listed as top selection, or, right under a USB device...

Go to control panel/admin tools/computer management/storage/disk management, and see if the correct Samsung drive's space shows up as unallocated. It should be able to be formatted from there...
