Hi, so I've got my myself a new 850 pro ssd disk 256gb and i wondered if i have done it right, so what i did was that i pressed f2/del when turning on my pc and i chose my new disk as boot up priorety, and then i copied all my files that was on the c disk to my new disk. Did i do anything wrong or do you have any tips. Did i do something that could hurt my pc?

Solution

The "boot priority" means nothing if there is no OS on that drive to boot from.

The Bios goes down in order:
First option - Is there a viable OS to boot from? Yes, do that, No? Move Next
Next Option - Is there a viable OS to boot from? Yes, do that, No? Move Next
Repeat until it sees a drive with an actual bootable OS on it.

It is still booting from the original smaller SSD.

And don't give your new drive, or any drive, the drive letter of A or B. Yes, it works. But...

Yes, you did this badly wrong.
You can't just "copy" everything from the original HDD C drive to the new SSD. Doesn't work like that.

Lets back up a few steps, and start over.

Power off
Take the new SSD out.
Does the system still boot from the original HDD?

I didnt copy everything over, I said it wrong. So i have 2 ssd disk, my original 112gb and my new 256gb, the only thing i did was making my new ssd "256gb" as boot up priorety, and that wasnt wrong was it? I'm on my pc now and everything feels faster/smoother. It boots up perfectly

I've used my C disk my only one for a long time, I bought a new one for 1month ago, and today i decided to change my boot up priorety to the new ssd disk. I have the 850 pro 256gb ssd, and my old one as i still have windows and everything on is a 112gb ssd. I have only installed games on the new one

If all you did was copy some game files and change the boot priority to to the new drive....it is still booting from the OS on the original drive.

If you change the drive letter from A to something else...whatever applications or games that are talking to the "A drive" will be broken.
You'd have to fix that.

The issue still remains that you've changed nothing regarding the OS and your boot process.
