Hi guys

I didnt manage to mount heatsink to the old q6600 and think now its dead. The mobo lights are all on, i feel with finger on cpu it seems hot and nice. I re-attached the heatsink without screws and its loose like on ice on the cpu. The mobo is now not starting and i tried do bake and all type of things with the ram. Troubleshooted the ram sticks for 3 hours with different methods. The CPU seems dead...

I was using the pc with and without heatsink for a few hours and suddenly it doesnt wanna show anything on the screen anymore.

No dvi signal, keyboard flash all lights on off and moouse seem have lights. Mobo is showing green light when i attached the heatsink backon, without it goes off, is there any protection on the q6600 from overheat? I think it is but im not sure..

Solution
The CPU is thermally protected and can clock itself down to as low as 200MHz if needed to keep the temperature down. If this is still unable to keep the temperature from rising it will shut off. This is all internal to the CPU and (unlike AMD of that time) doesn't require any assistance from the motherboard to work.

If you have another 775 system I would try it in that, but you may have killed your RAM sticks when reflowing them.
