I bought a new mobo and CPU and the CPU (i7 7700k) will not post to the new mobo. It is a. Gigabyte z170mx-gaming 5. All I get is 5 long beeps after its turned on for about 15 seconds. After the beeps it will shut down and start back up. Do I have to get an older LGA1151 CPU to do a flash bios to update the mobo?.

Solution

Short answer is yes. When you change the motherboard, you will need to reinstall windows. For just a CPU or RAM, no. But since you are coming from a AMD chip, you also have another motherboard. You might be able to get it to boot, but it may not run as it should. So even if you can get it to boot, I would do a clean install.

Hey, thanks for a solid answer. I should of put this question up there too but forgot. Do I have to install a new OS. I have win 7 on my harddrive. In going from AMD to Intel. So everything on my drive is AMD. Im swapping out the ddr3 mobo and fx6300 to what I already listed.
