Hi everyone,

My dinosaur mobo finally died (P7P55D-E Pro) and I need to upgrade the whole combo too (still used good old i5-750 OC 4ghz daily on air). Too bad it's right at the time of a lot of changes so I am a bit confused since I'm away from the hardware community for so long.

Could you please advise which option is better for a new computer for gaming and office work (several docs, sheets, chrome tabs, etc. no PTS or rendering)?

I've just looked up a bit and the below combos fall into my budget:

Option 1
Intel Core i5-7600K Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.8 GHz LGA 1151
ASUS ROG STRIX Z270H GAMING LGA1151
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Bus 2400 DDR4 CL16

I think I can continue to use my old air cooler Venomous X, I heard that it's compatible with 1151 socket

Option 2
AMD RYZEN 5 1600 6-Core 3.2 GHz (3.6 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4
ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING AM4
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Bus 2400 DDR4 CL16

Some new air cooler or at least new bracket for my Venomous X since I think AM2/AM3 bracket does not fit in new AM4. This option is roughly $50 cheaper than Option 1 where I live so I can afford a new compatible cooler

Any other suggestion is welcome too, if budget-wise not too outrageous.

Solution
Have you read the reviews? They'll be far more informed than an individual (not you hellfire), who will normally only have one or the other.

I'd suggest performance wise there's nothing in it for your usages.

Thanks, Hellfire13, but it will take at least a few months until the first batch can be purchased here. I am not sure whether such wait justifies or not. Can I just pick a combo now and forget about the 8th gen? I'm not really enthusiastic that much about small performance increase :D
