Hey,
I have Windows 7 on a hard drive that I took from my work PC, I was just wondering if i can connect it up to a new PC that I will be building? Or if there are certain steps I need to take to do this?

Solution
No this won't work, Well at least not well. The drivers will be drastically different so it'll run a good bit slower than a fresh install at Best, also likely to crash on occasion or worst case flat not work.

Basically you didn't steal.much of a useful thing. Just download Windows 10 from Microsoft, run it in trial mode until you find the money to make it legit.

You need to reinstall windows 7 to run it on a new PC since windows was running on a different hardware. If you directly connect on a new hardware,It may run or may not. But later you will have to face issues with it not working properly.

So better backup the data you need, reinstall windows 7 once connected to your new PC and if you are carrying a product key, you can activate the widows once installed. If not you can buy one from Microsoft website.

Good Luck.:) Peace.
