Hi everyone,

I'm looking to build a budget PC for my brothers B-day. It's in a couple weeks, so i'm limited in the amount of time I can research. Been looking through forums for suggestions, but some of the articles are quite old, so there may be new stuff I've missed.

Here's a part list I have so far:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/6RsTyf

It's just a standard PC he's gonna use for browsing online, Facebook, Youtube, writing Word documents and maybe a few films, so it's fairly expensive already, considering it isn't used for work or gaming, but I want it to last a good few years. Budget is a maximum of £350

I'm gonna be honest, I haven't managed to research a lot of these, I went with the highest rated components for each section, a good budget and were all compatible. I think I may replace the HDD with an SSD.

Does anyone have any suggestions for replacements or even their own list they've previous suggested?

Thank you.

Solution
Ryzen 3 1200
ASRock AB350 Pro4 or AB350M Pro4 motherboard
8 GB of decent RAM. Choose whatever is compatible and on sale this week
a 240GB+ SSD. Any reputable brand.
500+ Watt PSU, rated Bronze or above. Again, look for what is on sale.

Thanks for the reply,

Yep, I was going to go with that model. I found some spare RAM in my room, so I can remove £60 from the list. Anything else you would suggest? Cheers.

It is a pretty decent build, decent quality parts. That is pretty much the same setup I would recommend for that purpose.
Changing HDD to SSD is a very good idea but will raise cost. None of the $50 budget SSDs are any good, all the current gen ones use blah toshiba 3d tlc. The "best" of the budget drives is the PNY C1311. Even that one will be noticeably slower then crucial or samsung drives.

On second thought, I don't think you can do a Ryzen machine with an SSD for £350.

For an extreme budget machine, you can't beat an Intel Pentium chip with integrated graphics.

You did say that you wanted the machine to have some longevity though.

Only buy the Samsung EVO if it is on super sale. There is no point in putting a gold star SSD in a budget build. There are many good SSDs that are cheaper (SanDisk, Crucial, WD)
