I built my current rig in 2013 with an i7 950. It runs pretty well these days but the motherboard is starting to give out on me. Wanting some advice. Should I just upgrade the motherboard to a newer motherboard with the same socket? Or should I replace the CPU/motherboard/RAM?
I have done some updating over the years...running 24 GB DDR3 (maxed out), 2 SSD's, and a GTX 1070, but I am still experiencing some problems stemming from the motherboard and the fact they don't update it anymore (since Jan 2014) and I have some bottle-necking going on.
If it is time to update the whole system, should I just look at the latest i7...the 6700k...or maybe a Ryzen 5/7?
I don't need anything super crazy fast. The most intensive thing I do is video editing in Premiere.
I am fine just getting a more-current motherboard and I know that would be cheaper, but how much more life can I get out of my 2012 processor and is it worth it?
