Hi Guts.

I am looking for ISO file that I can install and create a router out of an old pc of mine. The router should be able to have a WAN connection and 4g dongle. Basically 4g Dongle and fail over WAN connection which is going to be a ADSL line.

Any help is appreciated. I know buying new router is easier buy I dont have money for that solution and not willing to pay 3000.00 to 5000.00 for new router. (Basically 300.00 to 500.00 US dollar)

There is options for making custom routers out of PCs like PfSense but this A) requires more expensive intel nic cards then what your standard PC comes with and B) requires a much more advanced understanding of networking.

In short this is not going to be cheaper or easier than an off the shelf router.

Not sure why you think that a router that can handle a 4g dongle costs $300. Plenty in the $100 USD range can do that.

True true but the routers that support 4g dongle does not support the 4g dongle model. Anyways.... I want one that failover to a ADSL line.. not just support a 4G dongle.

Then you are talking a very high end router and not consumer grade.

A router that supports a direct ADSL line connection as an input is not a router at all, that is a modem/router combo.

A router takes ethernet in, and provides ethernet (and/or wifi) out while providing DHCP and NAT.
A modem converts one cable medium and protocol (ADSL over phone, DOCSIS3 over cable, etc) and converts it to ethernet.

I would be utterly amazed if there is a decent modem/router combo that also accepts 4g dongles.
The much easier approach is a ADSL modem connected to router.

You can get PCI or PCI-E ADSL modem cards from a PC, but this will add another $150 USD to the cost.
