It's a little late but I need a laptop. I just built a ryzen pc with a 1070 so I don't need it for games or editing but I would like some horsepower with it. Looking for something that's thin, light and has a good battery life. Also would like an i7 (duo or quad core) with 8GB of ram (16 is ok too). Budget is $1300 but a little higher is ok.

Ok so a portable with i5 or better plus at least 8gb of ram and SSD is good for you.

Dell XPS
Lenovo Yoga 710
Lenovo Yoga 910

The surface pro is a nice laptop, but I dont like it for college use because it requires a hard solid surface to use the keyboard/stand. So it will be very awkward trying to use it on your lap or anything else not completely flat and solid.
XPS 13 is a good laptop if you are fine working on a laptop that small, that first one though is grossly overpriced for what it is. I would expect a 1060 GPU for that price.
FYI i have a lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and did some work on a new XPS 13 and to me it was just to small with too cramped of a keyboard. Mind you I am also 6' 3"

Health Sciences at UMN, specifically kinesiology. I don't think I will be doing anything too hard.
