How Many Video Capture Cards in a PC?

Solution
I know I've been saying, "Go with two computers! Go with two computers!", but I don't see any harm in trying them both in one machine first and if it works for you, you're done! If not, then you should be prepared to purchase and build the second system.

You'd probably be better off running two systems anyway. From what I've read, you need a pretty hefty system just to run one card, though I have seen any official system requirements other than a 64-bit OS. Comments and reviews seem to state you need a high-end Core I7 processor, a fast storage solution, and a significant amount of RAM just for running one card.

Now you should be able to run as many of these cards as you want in a PC, as long as you have enough PCI-E lanes. Processing power and RAM requirements can probably be kept within reason, but where you're going to run into trouble is the storage solution. Folks are saying a fast SSD RAID set up for just keeping up with the 8 channels of one card. I kind of doubt even that would be enough for 16 channels and two cards.

Just my opinion, though.

Again, processing power and RAM probably isn't going to be the issue. I was running a quad tuner (Ceton InfiniTV4 TV Tuner) on a dual core CPU with 8 GB of RAM, but that was only recording HD Cable TV. No. Your problem is going to be having a fast enough storage solution.
