Not even stable at 4.2ghz with 1.2vcore. Do i just have a bad chip or is there something I might be missing in the process?

Specs:
AsRock z97x Killer
Kraken X61 Cooler

It runs in high 70s at 1.2 but I could try. EVGA Supernova 650 G3 is psu. Stable at 4.1 with 1.15 but nothing over that. Tried going up to 1.25 for 4.2 but still get bsod on bootup.

Keeping increasing your voltage 0.01v at a time until you can get 4.2ghz to boot

In general, as long as you can keep temps looking good, you want to keep that CPU under 1.35v

It could well be that you've got a 4690K that doesn't OC that well, but trial and error will help find out

Also, might be worth reseating the cooler with a fresh application of thermal paste if temps start getting higher than expected.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I did reset the bios after update but to no avail. Stuck at 4.0 I just couldn't justify keeping the processor around with as much multi-tasking as I do. Went out and picked up a ryzen 5 1600 with mobo and ram today. Time to see what it's like on the other side.
