Dear Forum

(Repharsing my question from yesterday with all data about my computer)

My Win7 PC is currently running 4GB Patriot 1600LL DDR3 RAM.

I would like to double the RAM by adding another 4G on the second slot aiming at extending my PCs life time.

What do I have to look at?

Below metrics extracted from CPU-Z

CPU:
Processor: Intel Core i7 860 @2.8GHz

Mainboard:
Chipset: Intel, DMI Host Bridge
Southbridge: Intel, P55

Memory:
Type: DDR3
Size: 4096MBytes
Channels#: Dual
NB Frequency 2400MHz
Timings::DRAM Frequency: 533MHz

SPD:
On Slot #1: DDR3
Module Size: 2048 Mbytes
Max Bandwidth: PC3-8500F (533MHz)
Manufacturer: Patriot Memory
Part Number: 1600LL Series
Timings Table::Frequency: JEDEC #1
Timings Table::Frequency: JEDEC #2
Timings Table::Frequency: XMP-1600

Is this thing too old to even consider extending RAM?
Can I simply buy any old 4G DDR3 RAM or what metrics should I pay attention to?
Can I instead fit it with e.g. 2*8G RAM of a newer make?

Solution
use the cosair memory info program from there web page it read your mb info and give you part number of there ram kits that will work in your pc.
you want to buy one large ram kit. the issue with ram is mixing two sticks from two different kits or vendors can sometime cuase pc to be unstable do to memory errors.
