Tbh the most valubale data i have are my roms for retropie. I have a slow internet so it took like hours to download all the stuff. How would i exacally extract the files if it were a case that it was barly working?

There is free software that can do it, while I would say you may download docs, I've never extracted file over 100MB without an error.

if you want to recover photos or stuff under 50 MB each, this will do. Just remember it can die completely any sec so pick what you recover.
If it will fail professionals will charge you ~400$ for taking anything out.

It's a emulator software for the raspberry pi.

I can't really remember what was in the drive. Also i think i know what killed it. I had a iphone with like 40 gb of photos and videos taken out and stored it on the drive. The phone is now extreamly sluggish because the flash memory is probably gone through too much. Maybe the harddrive is also failing because of that.
