Wait, I don't get what you are trying to say. Are you upgrading to a 1070 or downgrading to a 1060? If you are getting 300 for the 1060 that's good. You should be getting between 400 to 450$ for a 1070. The 1070 is around 30-40% faster.

That's just horrible. I sold my 480 for 350 a couple of weeks ago. You are getting ripped off. These are some past listings for 1070s.
Basically Cryptocurrency Miners are buying up cards left and right and are willing to overpay. There is no reason to sell at 300 when people are willing to spend 450.

Oh sorry about that. You could still get more. But it's not as bad as I thought. Almost all of these cards are used. GPU prices are just through the roof right now.

It still doesn't make sense to me. How much profit are you actually going to have after buying a 1060? I don't know the prices in pounds but looking at the American prices there will be very little profit if you go for the better, 6GB version of the 1060. Is it really worth taking a significant decrease in performance for 20-30 pounds? I definitely would not do this.

You should google it. Basically virtual currencies like Bitcoin (not profitable anymore so people use alternative currencies like Ethereum) can be earned by just letting your pc run an application which uses your GPU to solve computing tasks. A lot of people jumped on the mining bandwagon when the value of ethereum skyrocketed. Some people bought 6 GPUs in a single system to mine. Some bought hundreds of GPUs. Due to the high demand, prices went up and are still high. Also I agree with king3pj. You shouldn't do this just to earn a little bit of money. Only do this if you genuinely don't need that much performance.

If you aren't using the 1070 and you don't need to buy a 1060 this can make a bit more sense. Since you asked about the performance difference between the two I will answer that part now. Your laptop probably performs slightly worse than the 1060 in these charts. I know they don't do separate mobile versions anymore but lack of cooling in a laptop probably still results in lower clock speeds.

The 1070 is about 30% faster at 1080p.

Here is a Witcher 3 benchmark to give you actual FPS numbers. The 1060 isn't a bad card for 1080p gaming but the 1070 is significantly better.

how much do they pay? I might do that

also in witcher 3 all ultra I get like 55 fps on gtx 1070 :(

This benchmark was taken with all the Nvidia Hairworks settings turned off because they don't run well on AMD GPUs and they want the benchmarks to be fair. Hairworks really tanks performance in Witcher 3 so this is probably why your numbers are so different. You can read more details about that benchmark and see lots of other benchmarks to compare the 1060 and 1070 here.

Try mining or sell the card? Mining is not really profitable if you don't invest into a lot of hardware. With a single stock 1070 you could make like 2-3 bucks a day. You would have to let it run 24/7 raising the electric bill.
