Does the processor back matter?

I'm about to upgrade my processor and the one i'm getting has the same LGA slot and chipset to fit my motherboard. But the back of the processor looks different from my current one. So does the look of the processor back matter?

Solution
Specs sheet for that system state: "Dual-core Intel® Core™2 Extreme with 1066MHz FSB, 4MB L2 cache, XD, VT, EIST"
Source PDF

The Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor you're looking at has the same FSB, but twice the L2 Cache (8MB vs 4MD). Not sure what "XD" means, but this processor does support VT and EIST.

Unfortunately, what I'm reading online shows that Dell has used two or three different motherboards for that model workstation. Some support the QX6700 and some do not. Without knowing which one you have, we really cannot tell.

I'd suggest installing and running CPUID to find out the motherboard model number and then look to see if the QX6700 is listed as a supported processor.

I have a Intel core 2 duo e6300 and i'm planning on buying a Intel core 2 extreme qx6700.
But on the back of the qx6700 it looks different, not the gold plates but in the center.

Are you talking about this https://www.google.co.in/search?q=intel+core+2+extreme+qx6700&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjEj9fugOvVAhXJMo8KHZurBXYQ_AUICygC&biw=1360&bih=662#imgrc=vhAymjuO7WlbbM:

that CPU will work BTW as it has the same CPU socket the currently you are using which mother you have

Regardless of it being the same socket, you need to verify that your motherboard supports your requested processor. What is the model number of the motherboard? Look up it's CPU Support List on it's support page and verify the processor is listed there.

From what I am seeing, that model motherboard does not support quad-core processors. It appears due to it's 955X chipset, it only supports the following:

Intel Intel Pentium 4 (single core)
Intel Pentium D (dual core)
Intel Pentium processor Extreme Edition (dual core)
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (with Hyper-Threading)

Sorry, but it looks like the QX6700 won't work.
