CS650M and MSI GTX1070 - Power Connectors?

Hey guys,

I'm really confused and I was wondering if anyone could help!

I have a CS650M PSU and it has a 6 pin and 6+2 pin female outlets available. The GTX1070 has a 6 pin and a 8 pin outlet, both female.

I can find the cable for the 6+2 to 8 pin, but I am lost trying to find a 6 pin male to 6 pin male for the other. Does anyone have any potential solutions?

Thanks!

The the only 8 pin slot on my power supply is going to the 8 pin slot on the graphics card. I'd have to get from the 6 pin slot on the PSU to the 6 pin slot on the graphics card.

Sorry, I am a bit of a n00b with all this! Just to clarify, I would run only from the 8 pin PCIe slot on the power supply? And I'd split that and plug it into both the 8 pin and the 6 pin of the graphics card? Or just the 6 pin of the graphics card?

Your corsair only has one header for GPU.
All of those 6 pins are for Molex/Sata connections not for GPU.

You can get a 2xMolex to 1 6pin PCI-E adapter cable for the other 6 pin.
Your PSU technically has the wattage, but those older CX/CS series units are known for weak caps and short life spans.

Frankly I would not trust my 1070 to that PSU and would replace it. EVGA G2/G3/GQ are all good top notch ones, and SeaSonic is always a good choice.

I see. The other 8 pin slot is not occupied, the cpu gets it's power directly. Would that be a possible slot to use?

Alrighty. It looks like the keying is the same (just inverted). So it should be ok right? Is there any issues that you'd expect if I use the PSU like this?

The 4+4 pin EPS conneciton to the CPU is NOT the same pinout as PCI-E for GPU. You will damage parts trying to use that.
And what do you mean the CPU gets power directly, you should have at least a 4pin connected to your board.

I've just got that right, and now starting again... :/

Sorry, I meant that the CPU is cabled internally in the psu, so the 4+4 pin at the back of the psu is free. So, 100% I should not use the 4+4 pin to power the 6 pin on the GPU?

Where would I plug in the 2x Molex to get that extra 6 pin of power that you suggested earlier?

Cheers!

You have a cs650m ??

It has 2 x 8 pin ports for PCI express cables & it comes with 2 modular cables each with 2x 6+2 pin connectors.

So it has 4x 6+2 pin PCI express connectors in total

I'm not sure where the confusion is at all.

Just use one cable ,& use both connectors from that one cable

Hi pal,
Both the modular cables are on the mother board so I don't think I can use them.

OK, so if we use this picture as reference: http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x440/MacClipper0/Corsair/CS650M%20PSU/IMG_7222Copy_zps1e1b4871.jpg~original
I can use one 6+2 pin cable in the top right and connect that to the 8 pin on the graphics card. Then I can use another 6+2 pin cable in the bottom right, and connect that to the 6 pin on the graphics card, with the +2 hanging off?

I'm sorry if I'm making a pigs ear out of understanding all this!
