Motherboard beeping, computer won't boot

Hi all,

Built a new rig a few months ago, everything has been fine. Was on computer last night, it was working fine, and then this morning I went to turn it on and it won't start.

It is a long beep, followed by 2 short beeps, and it just continues. My mobo is an ASUS Prime Z270M-Plus. I tried a different GPU, and it was still the same thing. According to ASUS's website, this beeping code represents RAM failure.

I tried reseating my ram many times, I tried 1 stick in every slot, I tried every combination, including no ram. I manually reset my bios from my motherboard, and same thing.

It seems weird that both my sticks of ram would just die like that, but it also seems weird my mobo would just fault out like that.

I ordered new ram and a new mobo, and I am going to try each and return unneeded parts.

But I wanted to ask you guys if you have any idea what this could be? I also took out my cpu and re seated it as well, it all seemed fine. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. This just seems so random.

I'd agree, ASUS would indicate "no memory detected".

Now, the chances of both DIMMs failing at the same time are slim - outside of being damaged in a power surge or similar.

A more likely option would be slightly bent CPU socket pins, which happen to correspond to the DIMM slots.

If you've reseated the CPU and examined the socket, with no obvious bent pins - it may simply be that the motherboard has failed in some way.
Unless you have components to try in it's place, there's not much more you can do at this point.

I'd be inclined to expect as aspect of the motherboard has failed ,opposed to both DIMMs at the same time.

Hi, "I manually reset my bios from my motherboard". Was the power cord unplugged?
If yes, I'd RMA both board and CPU.

I may take a closer look at the pins to see if anything is bent.

I guess it just seems weird to me that after 2.5 months the CPU could randomly be damaged. I guess regardless of what the issue is, it is strange it happened so suddenly without any new parts or anything.

No, power cord was plugged in. I "shorted out" 2 of the CLRTC pins. Can't 100% verify if it worked or not, but it turned on for a second when I did that, then turned back off. Then when I started it up, it kept making the same beeps.

I am curious, why do you think it could be a CPU issue?

1ST. TAKE OFF THE BATTERY
2ST. WHILE IN THIS SITUATION (WITHOUT BATTERY), POWER SYS ON.
3RD. LOAD SETUP OPTIMAL DEFAULTS
4TH. POWER OFF SYSTEM.
5TH. PUT ON THE BATTERY.
6TH. RUN PC WITH 1 RAM AND CHANGE THE SLOT

sir Remove rams just RUN your PC with 1 ram but you should change that one ram Slot.
