TV as second monitor issue

So, I have an Insignia TV (48" I believe) that I am trying to use as my second monitor. The only problem is that when I go to display settings, windows will not detect the TV as my second monitor. I have already searched it up some, but I still haven't had any luck. I have made sure that I have the latest drivers, and I'm using two different hdmi cables. I have a gtx 1060 6gb, and I have my main monitor plugged into the gpu and the second monitor (or TV) in the motherboard. I need help from those smart people I know are out there. What motherboard? Can't you connect both displays to the graphics card?

I have an evga gtx 1060 sc gaming and an msi b150m bazooka, I have two hdmi 2.0 cables, and also thanks for your quick reply.

If you unplug your current monitor and only have the Insignia plugged in do you get anything on the screen?

Also make sure the input on the tv is set to the correct HDMI input, you might have more than 1, trial by error if it isn't marked.

Very easy to forget lol.

No problem.
Try enabling in BIOS the IGD Multi-Monitor.
But you can also use for tv or monitor a DVI-D to HDMI cable connected to your graphics card.

Could I just get some sort of adapter that would turn hdmi 2.0 into one of the ports that actually fits on my gpu?

Why are you using the motherboard video out? You're just making things more complicated than they need to be. Your videocard has multiple outputs.

Your tv is probably HDMI input only right? So that gets connected to the HDMI output of the videocard. This leaves your monitor, which if it has more than one input(like HDMI & DVI) you just use the non HDMI input. Since you did not provide model numbers of the tv or monitor I can't be more specific.

Ok so for the gpu ports, I believe it is a dvi-d, an hdmi 2.0, and 3 display port 1.4 connectors.

First connect the hdmi from the Insignia to the HDMI on the gpu.

Then with an "Insignia DisplayPort-to-HDMI Adapter" (dont confuse this with your tv) convert the hdmi from your old monitor to displayport and connect this adapter to a displayport on the gpu.

Have you checked in BIOS that setting, for using the HDMI on motherboard? At least until getting the adapter?
