Did I fry my gpu?

Hi, I have a rig that's I recently built, and it's been running a 640 ( ancient, I know) today I fanilly got my gtx 1080... after installing it, I turned the pic on praying, and the gpu fans turn for a second and stop, and the lights turn blue and then orange and there's no display...

No idea what's happening, the only thing I could think of is I might have fried the gpu...
The gpu has a 8 pin and a 6 pin slot... I connected one of the 8 pins to the psu ( a coup,e of weeks ago) and the. The 6+2 end I connected the 6 pins to the 3 slot on the gpu, but the problem is that when I connected the 8pin, I connected the 8 pin part to the gpu and the 6+2 to the psu vga slot...
Did I fry it?
I tried to connect the hdmi to the mobo to see if it detects it but for some reason the hdmi cable won't fit into the mobo hdmi slot (mobo asus z270f)
Is there any other way I could check if it's fried? Could it have been DOA? Is there a way to fix it?
Could it be anything else?

Hi, yeah I will
CPU: intel i5 7600k
Mobo asus strix z270f
( card we are talking about) asus strix 1080
Power supply : evga 650w gold
2x 4gb ram

The thing is when I connect it, it all lights up, ( but it lights up even if it's not connected to the psu, only to the mobo) and all, but I get no display...

Remove the card
Learn the bios/CMOS
Then reinstall the GPU and power cables

Then try again
Edit just re read the post
I wouldn't think it would be possible to install the cable the wrong way around they are usually keyed so they only fit in one place
Make sure you reinstall the power cables correctly

You need oil to fry your GPU, otherwise it wouldnt be as crispy and tastey.

Check your temps.

Hi,
I wouldn't have thought either, that's why I didn't think much of it...
When I tried inserting the 6+2 it didn't look like it would work, so I turned it around and it fit, I didn't force it or anything, it just kinda slipped in there....
Look:
I put one of these in the gpu: https://imgur.com/a/dG5FL And it doesn't look forced in anyway, it doesn't have scratches or dents or anything...
And the. I plugged these (6+2) in the psu: https://imgur.com/a/ASy69 again, they don't look forced or anything, but I'm not getting any display, someone said I fried it but I'm not sure...

I already tried reinstalling it with the correct cable,
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advanced

Well, luckily it turned out that I did not fry the gpu but the hdmi cable... it worked anything else but my new rig, took the whole rig to a tech store , they tested it and the gpu was alive, bought a new cable and it worked
