Cannot overclock a core quad

Every time i overclock my q9550 it gets back to 2.83 help and i have a great cooling facility hyper 212 evo and a custom fan around the case

I need settings to overclock it to 3.7

My specs
Cpu: intel core 2 quad q9550
Mobo :ga g41 mt es2l rev 1.3
Ram ddr3 1333 mhz
Gpu gt 710
Psu 220 watts

And ill later upgrade to 450 wats psu and gtx 1050 ti
I can change the number to( 200 - 1200) x 8.5

As BFG-9000 stated above, it should go to 340 FSB. That gives you 2.89Ghz.

Your motherboard may not be capable of overclocking that CPU that much.

Your power supply is cutting it close.

The Q9550 has a multiplier of 8.5. Default is 8.5 x 333FSB = 2.83Ghz

To overclock you will have to raise the FSB. You need a FSB of 435 for 3.7Ghz. I very much doubt a G41 motherboard can do that.

Why are you overclocking? The weakest part of that computer is the GT 710. If you're looking for gaming performance overclocking the CPU isn't going to help.

G41 chipset tops out for most people at ~340MHz FSB because it lacks any looser strap to go higher. So you can get 8.5 x 340FSB = 2.89GHz, which is hardly worth mentioning. It really needs a high multiplier chip with 800 or 1066 bus to overclock with.

I can tell you the 3-phase VRM on the GA-G41M-ES2L isn't the greatest for hungry quads--I put in a Q6700 @ 3.4GHz 145w and promptly blew a mosfet by running IntelBurnTest. After replacing the mosfet, 3.33GHz 135w could run IntelBurnTest all day long and the system still works 8 years later.

You could easily reach 3.7GHz with a Pentium E5200-E5800 or E6500-E6800 which have multipliers of 11 to 16x, but those are only dual-cores. They would only run around 85w.

If you are only going to play 10 year old games that barely use shaders at all (which is what such a system is best for), the GT710 is just as fast as a GT720 or Kepler GT730, and actually faster than the Fermi GT730. 1050Ti though would be bottlenecked so severely that it might not deliver more FPS, but could run 4x supersampling with no loss...

I have a core 2 duo E8500 @3.26 GHZ (343x9.5) and i really want to reach 4.5 GHZ with it on a gigabyte g41mt-s2p and 6gb ddr3 kingston rams dual channel and all i could reach is that cpu freq. 3.26 GHZ and 7-7-7-21 ram timings, i saw someone saying he had same cpu of mine and reached 4.5 ghz with g41mt-ES2L.
so is it possible to reach that freq or no? :D

No, that sounds completely impossible. On G41 people have to crank up MCH and Term voltages, then tinker with higher PCIe speeds just to hit 350FSB which would only give you 3.33GHz. And ~180w (into two 45nm cores!) cannot be delivered by such a poor VRM.

Why beat your head against the (FSB) wall? Any P45 or G45 board can run a dual core at 500FSB every day. And would have a southbridge with AHCI too.

I didn't realize G41 was THAT limited but all my Core2 overclocking was done on P965 and then later P45. Those P45 and G45 boards are almost impossible to find anymore though.

I am going to chang my psu and gpu pau to 400w and gpu 1050 ti
And dont want to change my mobo as i want to collect and get a high end mobo to get max 32 gb ram and i5 sutaible for upgrades and in bios it can go the num 333 can be changed to 1200 too but i need the canges of voltages

Just because you can change the settings does not mean it will work. As said above that motherboard is not suitable for overclocking.
