Hi,
I am looking to upgrade my PC. My existing setup is pretty old. I have an FX 6300 Processor, 12GB DDR3 Ram, Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 Mobo, CX500 PSU, and a Sapphire Nitro RX 460 4G GPU. I play games at 1080p. I plan to move to the AM4 platform with a Ryzen 5 1600 Processor, 8GB Corsair LPX DDR4 2400 MHz Ram and Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 Mobo. I also want to change my GPU to a Zotac GTX 1060 AMP 6GB (solely due to the 5 year warranty).

The dilemma I am in right now is that I only have cash for either the GPU or the processor combo at the moment. I will buy the other component in about 6 months time when I have saved enough.

Which one should I buy first? The GPU or the CPU combo?

Will the FX 6300 bottleneck the GTX 1060 to such an extent that games are unplayable at 1080p?

Solution
Tough, personally, get rid of the FX it should let the 460 stretch a bit more, there's only coffee lake on the horizon, so no need to wait for anything. You may not get more FPS, but you should get more stable FPS.
