They are compatible allright, but if you are buying today, that cpu is pretty old and obsolete tech in 2017. You need to switch to current tech like Intel Kabylake or AMD Ryzen for better performance.
Around $200 the 1600 is ruling right now. You can go for a i5 7500, but it wont last as long as the 1600 in terms of compatibility and scaling.
My advice would be to wait for a while as the next gen. Intel i5 will be launching in a few weeks around the same price. See what performance it brings with 2 additional cores and then make a decision.
