New motherboard for existing build

Hey guys. So my current set up is:

Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB
3 Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3
(2x) Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W Video Card: Sapphire Dual-X Radeon
HD 6970 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Cooling System: Corsair Hydro
Series H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

I'm looking for a new motherboard that has a 3.0 PCI-E that would be compatible so I can use a modern video card. It's been a while since I've built a rig so not sure if it's even possible. Thanks

No boards available, only one 990FX board in AM3+ had that option through a onboard chip since their CPU's did not support it. In your case it is time to upgrade the platform before the card.

So if I bought say a GTX 1080 it would work with my setup?

It will work but your 7 year old CPU will have a hard time to keep up with it.
