Could I buy just a fan and not the heatsink? because I don't want to go through the trouble of replacing it all, because the heatsink is fine its just the fan.
that not really advisable. Plus, re-applying thermal paste is a good thing to do, if it hasn't been done in a while.
there will be instructions, and perhaps videos online for your CPU/Mobo combo.
I got it in May 27 2016, idk if thats a long time or not.
well, in terms of the thermal paste. No thats not exactly along time. But the point being is that to replace 'just' the fan off the heatsink would be as complicated as simply buying a new cooler with paste already applied, and just slotting it in. Believe me, that would be a whole lot easier than trying to re-fit a fan to an already mounted heatsink (or at least it would be in my mind - others might disagree)
You could take the heatsink off to make fitting the fan easier, but then you'd still have to re-apply thermal paste.
I don't quite understand your reticence to changing the whole cooler. To do what you want to do, you first have to source a fan that will fit the heatsink perfectly, and then probably still end up having to re-apply the thermal anyway, because it wouldn't be a good idea to be pressing down on the heatsink while trying to fit the new fan and whilst the heatsink is still on the CPU. In my mind that wouldn't be careful practice.
