Hello i have an Optiplex 790 and was wondering if the if the powersupply would have to be in the case i have gotten a 430W psu but that is for the Optiplex 790 MT version the diffrence between both is the MT has a bigger case but am just wondering if the psu would have to be in the case to get things running

Solution
No it doesn't have to be in the case to work.
Other thing is - does your PC have standard 24pin and 4 or 8 pin for CPU?
I found some pictures on net and it seems that it is standard thing with wires.
Anyway, you can mod the case to put it in, but as I said, there is no need to do that as it will work fine even out of the case.
Good luck! :)
Some people run bigger PSUs sitting on the desk in Desktop,SFF and USFF computers. The onlty thing is Dell PSUs tend to have the wires just the right length for the cases they come in. For instance the MB 24 pin is often right next to the PSU with a short cable there. An aftermarket PSU will be designed to fit in full tower cases with various layouts so the cable lengths are more generous. This makes it easier. So do some measuring.
