So I have an old Compaq desktop that I am replacing with a build. I have an evga geforce gtx 470 and a good psu. I am going to use MSI 970A GAMING PRO CARBON. I pretty much have everything I need along with a new Windows 10 installation disc. My hard drive that I have now is running Vista but I am wondering if I can back up what I need to , wipe the hard drive, put it in my build and install windows 10?

Windows 10 setup is capable of formatting the drive. In the setup, just delete the old partition and create a new one.
If you don't have a separate disk to place your backups into, the setup can also move the previous windows installation and the users folder to a Windows.old folder on the same drive, but I wouldn't trust this.

Should I do this before installing the hard drive on the new mother board?
