My laptop's display is now completely out. Anyway, I'm not going to use this laptop anymore (So getting a new display is out of the window). But I have to get some files and personal media from it. So I've decided to use HDMI to link it to my TV. Gonna have to buy a cable. I have Linux installed in it. So, my question is just connecting my TV and laptop is enough ? Or do I have to configure something after booting into my laptop inorder for this to work (which is impossible right now and I have no choice but to get a new display) ?

You may have to do some setting within the OS to display the laptop onto the TV. If you are going to completely throw away the laptop I recommend to get a SATA to USB connector and remove the Hard Drive from your laptop and plug the Hard Drive into your new PC/Laptop. You will be able to boot from the Hard Drive and put the files you want onto a USB/External HD, problem solved!
