Slow Internet Speed

Hey,

My advertised internet speed is up to 17Mbps (Download and all values as megaBYTES) and my predicted speed is 4Mbps, however I'm recieving an average speed of only 250Kbps, I contacted my Internet Provider (BT) and they said there was nothing wrong with their cables and said that they had no fault in their system and that it must be my fault. They also stated that my location wasn't the cause of the slow connection speeds.

Im sure that this isn't due to any of my devices playing around as they are all able to cope with high internet speeds (tested with my friends internet, worked fine at 7Mbps Download).

Yes, I use an ADSL filter and before you ask I use a new Router that is compatible with high internet speeds (BT Home Hub 4)

My question is what can possibly be causing this slow connection speed and how could I solve, I have read many articles and none of them have helped at all.

Thanks In Advance!

Could be that the ADSL filter to router cable is not what it should be.

Or the ASDL filter itself may not be good.

Narrow things down by methodically replacing cables with known working cables and then replacing the ADSL filter itself.

And remember that even if the BT Home Hub 4 is compatible it still must be correctly configured. Check the User Guide/Manual to ensure that the current configuration is appropriate for your network.
