ok I have a dell 546 with 4GB ram and I want to max it out to the 8GB that the info for the MB says it can ...MB is DRS780M02 and the processor is AMD Penom 9650 quad-core 2300 Mhz, the ram i have now is KINGSTON 1GB pc2-6400u 666(KCM633-elc) A few years ago I bout 4 sticks of 2GB ram and every time i use it my pc would BSOD and reboot :-( it is 2GB pc2-6400 800Mhz s/n 124922-0984. now the ram i have is about 1 1/4" wide were the 2GB sticks are 3/4"...I was told this does not make a difference. So since I am still wanting the 8GB is there something I need to make sure is written in the ram description? I have read that some ran is distinctly for Intel and some AMD? I am my whits end...please any help out there???

Go to Crucial.com and see what they offer. If the part #s all end in x64 then it's low density RAM (chips on both sides of the modules. Very common for DDR2 Dells. If your new modules are "one sided" that's probably it. As far as AMD memory goes I don't know. I've seen it listed very cheap. I would get the latest BIOS from Dell. memory speeds can be updated there. if it needs AMD memory DDR2-800 modules are very cheap.
I have no experience with Dell AMDs. i'm just pointing out issues that Intel Dells have.

some AMD related pages.

ok on the dell ram...moduals are only one side ..the skinner ones have both sides. I did do the flashing of bios but still not working. so I am thinking of the new ram be wider and make sure the modulers only one side so be like what is in it
