SATA cable issue or something more?

I bought Seagate 1TB HDD (ST1000DM003-1SB102) in late march for my new pc as a secondary drive (os is installed on ssd). Everything was fine until sometime in june a problem occurred: when copying from one drive to another or downloading files to hdd it obviously struggles. The speed of copying/downloading goes up and down and based on the noise hdd makes I think it stops spinning and then starts again and then stops yet again and so on and so forth. It doesn't seem like a clicking issue to me. The hdd itself is perfectly accessible and doesn't disappear from drive list.

At that time I just swapped sata cable for another one lying around the house... and the issue was gone. Everything worked fine after that. Both the former and the latter sata cables are old and had been in this house since forever, so I just assumed that somehow the former one got bent (or whatever) just by hanging around in the pc case.

However, yesterday it all started again. It's the same exact thing as before. The system and the SeaTools utility doesn't seem to detect any issues. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but it doesn't seem like your usual faulty hdd issue. What am I overlooking?

Yes, something like this XD

Jokes aside, the HDD doesn't show any problems here. You should try re-seating the drive (while it's out, clean it too) and check again. Probably it's not a software issue, I guess.

Noises? Please elaborate? Sounds like a dying HDD tbh. First and foremost, back it up before attempting anything, you don't want to lose any data.

AFTER backing up (can't stress it enough) take out the drive and get it checked, it's still in warranty (isn't it?) :)

Well, it's the noise of hdd stopping and starting spinning again.

Wouldn't taking it out and getting checked the last thing to do? It'll take time and I'm not sure if it's faulty hdd. I'm not sure of anything at this point.

I'd get it checked though, IMHO. For the time being, download Crystal Disk Info and post the screenshots, so we could get a better idea of it :)
