Im not a PC builder, but know a decent amount about PC parts. Ive come up with this fair priced pc for video editing, but was wondering if there were any improvements I could make for not much more cost, or if I was doing something completely wrong? Here is my parts list:

Where are you actually located? For £1,700, you could have an absolute beast of a machine - with all components sourced from UK suppliers:

What currency do you need it in? Looking at it in USD, everything is available..... but in GBP, the 2TB drive etc is not. (and it's still pushing 1700GBP).

For video editing, I'd suggest looking to Ryzen. The added Cores/Threads you can get for the money would be greatly beneficial for editing.

The PSU isn't the best either, and I wouldn't look to run a relatively "high end" system on it.

Sticking with the $2,000 USD budget.... I'd look to something more like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor ($226.48 @ OutletPC)
CPU Cooler: Fractal Design - Celsius S36 87.6 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($119.79 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI - X370 GAMING PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard ($121.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team - Vulcan 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($259.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial - MX300 275GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($97.89 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.89 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB DUKE OC Video Card ($719.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design - Define R5 Blackout Edition ATX Mid Tower Case ($87.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: Rosewill - 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($45.88 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($89.89 @ OutletPC)
Sound Card: Asus - Xonar DX 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card ($89.88 @ OutletPC)
Case Fan: Corsair - ML140 Pro LED 97.0 CFM 140mm Fan ($29.39 @ OutletPC)

6Core/12thread, 1080TI, SSD etc....
A little over budget, but much stronger performance (and added money went to a Bluray drive etc, you could cut back there)

Thank you for your reply!
I have updated the build, check the link in the original post, but for some reason I can't use Ryzen, would you possibly know why?
Thanks
-Adam
:)

*UPDATE*
Just seen your updated build, this looks great but would this be possible in GBP?

So you need a build in GBP?

As for not being able to use Ryzen, unless you removed the motherboard, the compatibility filter isn't going to let you choose as AMD boards and Intel are not inter-changeable.

I'll update to a UK build.

With UK pricing, not exactly. You'd have to drop to a 1080 at least.... and some other tweaks here & there due to availability.

I've left the DVD drive out to save some money, you can always add an external USB option for ~20quid.

You could cut back a little more, OC the 1600 to rival the 1600X and save some money
You could probably drop the soundcard too, depending on your needs.

Just looking for raw performance vs cost here:

I can't thank you enough for the work you are putting in for me!
So now I have to make the choice-
either the PC You have built me, or the slightly more expensive one below
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LtGcXH
What do you recommend?
Thanks!

Half of those components in your build don't show as available in the UK:? How are you factoring in pricing?

While there's an additional 2 cores/4 threads between the R5 1600 and the R7 1700, the 1600 should be very capable for what you want to do.
Additional cores/threads will also be beneficial in editing though, so the R7 is definitely not a "bad" idea by any means.
***It's a balancing act, to accommodate the R7, you'd likely have to either increase the budget, or make sacrifices elsewhere.
For video editing, a GTX 1060 or 1070 would be more than enough, but within the budget, the raw horsepower gains with a 1080 would be a gaming beast. If this is strictly video editing, I'd take the R7 + lower GPU. If you want it to get the best of both, I'd opt for the R5 + 1080.

FWIW, the H75 (and H80i you originally used) are very 'budget' AIOs. Unless you're going for a quality, higher priced 240+mm AIO, I'd stick to air cooling.

The Noctua NH-D15 is a huge air cooler, but rivals most mid-high end AIOs. Something like the Cryorig H7 should be sufficient for moderate overclocks though.

You really know your stuff!
I can get things imported from over seas right?
And 200£ overpriced is ok I guess, Ill have to sell my old PC before I get a new one if I will do this, any ideas where to sell my old PC?
This look any better?

You *can* have components imported, but usually buying (fairly) local works out cheaper overall.
UK prices are higher than the US price + conversion, but would be cheaper than paying US prices + shipping + import duties etc.

Putting a build together, directly on UK.PCPartPicker will only show availability in the UK.

Looks like PCPP is down, at least for me. So I can't check out the build.

Was down for me too, I think 1700£ is ok, do you think I could get all the equipment for around this price imported and all? If so would this be a beast of a pc and be good for editing? haha :)

That's in a relatively small form-factor too.

Even with the case you're clearly leaning towards, 3+ case fans (in addition to the fans that come with any decent AIO) would be excessive IMO.

The PSU you were option for is quality too, but 850W is completely overkill for any system in this range.

With a drop to an air cooler and a change of form factor, you could have your DVD drive etc, and come in under £1,700
