I am going to overclock my i5 2500K on a stock cooler. I did pretty good with my A6 7400k (base 3.5Ghz to 4.3GhZ) I have no experience with OCing Intel chips. With my AMD CPU I used MSI OC Genie which OCed it to 4.2 then I saw that I still had low temps on idle so I overclocked it a bit more (it made a world of a difference!) What would be a good start?

Specs:

i5 2500K

Asus Sabertooth P67

8GB of RAM

Well, using the BIOS instead of software is usually the preferred method.

A stock cooler really isn't sufficient for getting the most out of that processor.

As long as you keep the temperature under 85C or so you can go as high as the chip will allow. Maximum everyday voltage is around 1.45 volts. Up to 1.5 is okay, but given the age of the processor, I would not risk this, and certainly not with a stock cooler.
