Hello,

I am currently in the market to buy a new gpu....I am currently running a GTS 450...Only play WoW and Overwatch. But Destiny 2 is coming out so I will need an upgrade. I was stuck between the GTX 1060 and the RX 580 and have decided to go with the 580 because I heard it was more future proof? I read somewhere that prices inflated due to miners and that prices used to be around 249. Right now all I am seeing is $300 for the cheapest. Are prices still inflated, or are these normal prices $300+?

Thank you

The Mid Range card prices are still inflated due to mining, that also has effected the GTX 1070 unfortunately (Same range as the GTX 1080)

So the prices are all screwed up currently.

Currently the best deal as far as price for performance is the GTX 1080, yes, it's not cheap but at least you get what you are paying for.

The GTX 1080 and GTX 1080ti prices have not been included in the mining craze BS.

So my recommendation would be to wait it all out, that could take awhile or pick up a GTX 1080.

As a side note EVGA has a deal now, Free Destiny 2 if you buy directly from EVGA.

So for now it's the lower end GTX 1050 and GTX 1050Ti and RX 460's (RX 560's) etc or the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080Ti. Pretty much anything in the middle is a...

I don't believe the RX580 is more future proof. Both are the current generations of GPUs by their respective manufacturers and places that benchmark and compare to two generally have the 1060 edging the 580 out, some aspects one better, other aspects the other one wins. It is really splitting hairs. I would just get whichever is less expensive at the moment. And right now, the GTX1060 is nearly half the prices of the RX580. The RX580 will only be more future proof if they can convince game makers to design their games around maximizing their Vulcan architecture hardware. As it stands now, most game makers design it around Nvidia's hardware. Unless that changes, the GTX1060 will likely be more future proof. Check this link out, it shows comparisons with many games. In some games the 580 edges it out, in some the 1060 does. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-radeon-rx-580-570-review
In the end, you have to ask yourself, is barely edging out in just some games worth paying double the money? I have always been a fan of AMD. I have had good luck with them. Generally you can get good performance with them when on a budget. But right now, with the prices now, the RX580 isn't a good deal in my opinon
