Welcome to the community

The system model optiplex 790 is designed to support only 4 GB memory module in a single slot .

In these two optiplex models each slot supports a maximum DIMM Capacity of 4GB and a total of 16GB in optiplex 790 & 990. This has been tried practically as well. The USFF version of these desktop models which is "Ultra Small Form Factor" supports only 8GB."
