I have a PC which I just reset with Windows ME on it. When I try to install Realtek AC97 drivers on it, it successfully installs but sound still doesn't work. When I go to device manager, it recognizes that there's software installed for the sound hardware but under the 'device status' it says 'The NTKERN.VXD, MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2)'

I need a solution that fixes the problem while the PC is offline as I can't seem to be able to get the PC connected to the internet (I am not interested in solutions to the internet problem)

Please can somebody help me?

Thank you.

Solution
You may be missing other chipset drivers for that motherboard which are required in order for the sound driver to work together on Windows ME

A really old one, I'll tell you that but I'm not sure on what specific one it is, I can tell you that the manufacturer is Foxconn if that helps.

If the audio is on the motherboard, then you need to know what motherboard it specifically is in order to get Windows ME drivers for it. Same goes for the ethernet connection. Try to read what info you can get directly off the board, or if you're booting up and running Windows, you could also install software like HWInfo (free) and get the motherboard info from it.

Thanks, I'll try HWinfo and if not, I'll try having a good look at the motherboard. Just a note though. I've previously had the exact same software installed on this pc with working sound and no problems.

I also need to install driver software for a SiS chipset. I will try that and let you know.
