Hi, I've just started in trying to build my own Desktop and I was wondering if could tell me the RAM type this processor (below) requires (I don't understand a lot of the specifications).

- "Intel Core i3 4170 Haswell Processor" (Which you can find here, https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i3-4170-lga-1150-haswell-dual-core-37ghz-5-gt-s-dmi-1150mhz-gpu-37x-ratio-54w-cpu-retail?gclid=CjwKCAjwuITNBRBFEiwA9N9YEF6E13NKSDmWRqz39fVvz-pvDD1eblwfXguopO_ev_nwJ48vBsxmUhoC0HcQAvD_BwE)

I'm going to order (X1) this RAM the "Kingston 8GB (1x8GB) PC3-8500R 2Rx4 Server Memory" (found here: https://www.techbuyer.com/kth-pl310q8-8g-kingston-8gb-1x8gb-pc3-8500r-2rx4-server-memory-6339/?gclid=CjwKCAjwuITNBRBFEiwA9N9YEAyoEjj3fciql13KFtspflSXZ3wKhrr6T5NksQcHztmMZXRnl1TjRhoCmz8QAvD_BwE)

I just want to know if that RAM stick can be used, thank you.

Solution
You will need non-ECC (unbuffered) DDR3 memory. So that memory will not work with that CPU since it is ECC server memory. That's also why it's so cheap. You'll have to spend more on non-ECC memory. It's also recommended to get 2 modules exactly alike to run in dual-channel. But it's not required.
