Every few seconds my mouse is freezing for some miliseconds. The problem is really annoying and i am sure that it isn't a mouse problem. Here is a screen of my task manager. My cpu is the i5 650, the problem wasn't happening before. I am changing the cpu soon to a xeon x3470

I have noticed sometimes the freeze lasts longer, for example right now the freezing isn't so much but when i use the pc for a long time and open a lot of programs, then the problem is harder even when i close those programs.

I am using the Advanced System care Pro software to clear some ram and find system problems and boost pc performance but it hasn't helped at that problem.

Advanced System Care is just short of worthless, sorry to say....

Check your temps....preferably with HWMonitor....

If they are fine, you might want to check your task manager/startup and disable everything not needed.

We need to get that 50%+ CPU busy taken care of, even a lowly 1.6 GHz Celeron wtih 4 GB of RAM can get down to 2-3% cpu utilization...

Make sure your WIndows updates are not dragging you into wasted time troubleshooting sluggishness while updates are being downloaded/applied....

I'd do a quick pass with Malwarebytes pruducts of JRT, AdwCleaner, and Antimalware...let the latter two clean what they find....

If all looks good temp wise, no malware found, might want to download GSmartControl and run a 2 min test on your...

Let's see where those steps get you first...

Malware bytes found 25 Threads and Advanced system care was included there as well for some reason. I performed a test with gmSmartControl and all my drives have passed the test. The mouse right now is not freezing and the cpu usage is like 5-10% with crome and mozila tabs open.

i know I can get the wife's Dell Celeron down to 2-3%, but that's with no browser open...

If your mouse is no longer freezing, maybe your problem is solved...if Malwarebytes removed some things, maybe one of them was causing it...

You can reinstall things one at a time if you think you needed them, and look for it to recur if you wish, or, enjoy things as they are...

(There is a controversy over Malwarebytes accusing Iobit of borrowing their virus database access for commercial gain, which results in all of their products being declared "Potentially Unwanted Programs"...)

In the case of Advanced System Care, most recommend against it; having paid for it already will not make it more effective at anything, and it really has no advantages...;although it might even have been causing your freezes, you can decide if you wish to reinstall it, as it is your software, and your computer...

Good luck

Do you recommend any alternative program to do all that system scan advance system care does? Also driver booster from iobit is worth.

In case anyone is still getting this after these things did not work, make sure to turn on all monitors/displays connected to your graphics card. I just had this issue with my 2 monitor setup. I only turned on one monitor to quickly check e-mails and it was freezing (likely the GPU is getting hiccups because it doesn't know what to do with the plugged in second display). I tried turning on my second monitor and it works.

Signed up just to say thank you, and also to express my utter bewilderment that this is the problem.

Edit: OK, this appears to be an issue with recent AMD drivers. Looks like they are aware of it: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-18-8-1 "Cursor or system lag may be observed on some system configurations when two or more displays are connected and one display is powered off."

It may be related to HDCP. If I turn off HDCP on the monitor that I like to turn off, then the issue goes away. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/971eqk/psa_if_you_have_mouse_lag_in_the_latest_drivers/

I also signed up to say thanks. I have 3 monitors (and a Vive) but one is connected with DVI from my desktop (having the issue) and the same monitor has HDMI from my laptop so I can share it. After unplugging it from my desktop (to see if this solved it) my mouse no long pauses/freezes ever second or so. It wasn't just the mouse freezing, it was everything (ie video playback, games, etc), freezing for a few milliseconds every second.
