DRAM frequency not correct. CPU-Z showing 1199.8mhz on 3000mhz DDR4 (2x8) sticks

Per the title.. spent an hour or so looking thru similar threads. Benchmarks and BIOS keeps showing 2400mhz ram, but clearly reading the sticks as 3000mhz.

Timing/voltage looks right and I turned on XMP in the BIOS.

DRAM speed only shows 1199.8mhz on the Memory tab, but then SPD tab shows 1499mhz. So is the XMP profile working or not?

I'm only questioning it because the benchmark i ran showed my memory as 2400mhz also and a junk score.

Mobo is an MSI X99S Gaming 7.

Solution
It's running at 2400. The spd tab just shows different profiles but doesn't say if it's on xmp. It may not even show all profiles. There maybe multiple xmp so make sure you selected the one for 3000.

SPD is what the manufacturer writes on the ram chips. Could be anything. Your RAM is running at 2400 Mhz. 1199.8*2 =2400 Mhz, which is the first D in DDR that stands for double.

What CPU do you have?

Ok, that's what I thought..

CPU is i7-5820K

"'-wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Did a quick google search and doesn't need the "-". wmic memorychip get speed came up as
"Speed
3000
3000"

Ok, so in the BIOS I need to look for XMP profiles. Thought I only saw the 1 profile, if that's the case do i just set the timing manually for 3000mhz?

I mean without "-" sry my bad, this is your dimms and correct speed.

Seems to be fixed now. The BIOS had a "Game Boost" option selected and I couldnt have XMP on with it at the same time. I did have an issue where it no longer wanted to boot, but cleared CMOS, went into BIOS a cpl times to fix a setting and voila... CPU-Z now shows DRAM freq at 1499.6-1500 and correct timing. Thx for the help!

Cool. Per specs, your CPU only supports RAM up to 2133Mhz, but since it's a K and the right generation, they usually overclock easily.

You are technically overclocking the memory controller of the CPU, no?

Both ram and imc. There is separate ram and vtt voltages. But ram multi isn't something that gets locked which is why you don't need a k cpu to oc ram. You do need a mobo that can oc ram though. You'll also notice people can use 3000mhz without touching vtt and just raising ram voltage which is going to be higher than stock.

These sticks should be able to run at DDR4 3333 MHz with the same primary timings 15-17-17-35 with a bit of a bump in voltages. I have 32GB with same rating as yours and I suspect the same chips from the default tRFC value of 525 at 3000 MHz. They are running stable once I bumped the voltages up a little:
DRAM voltage: 1.39v (Anything below 1.412v is perfectly safe for 24/7 use on Intel)
VCCSA voltage: 1.2v (possibly can lower this further, depends on how good your IMC is)
VCCIO voltage: 1.21v (possibly can lower this further, depends on how good your IMC is)

Also managed to squeeze quite a bit extra performance out of these dimms by changing some timings, the most significant ones as follows:
tRFC:489
tREFI:65000
tRDRDsg:6

Good luck
