Hello all, I'm trying to figure out what proccessor I'm going to upgrade to.
I have a ACER PC and the model is Aspire TC 705.

The cpu I have now is an Intel haswell core i5 4460 3.2ghz. I see that these processors are lga 1150 based. I looked in the booklet that came with my pc, as well as online and I can't seem to find the motherboard model that is in this system. I'm trying to see what processors are compatible with this motherboard. Can 1150 LGA motherboards run LGA 1151 cpu's? Whats the best processor I could buy for this system? and is it even worth it to upgrade on this motherboard?

If I get a new one, then I would have to buy another motherboard, cpu, and possibly windows 10! ( i think) my budget is at least 300-350$

BIOS updates along the way may have allowed a few more CPU's to be supported on that motherboard, but you really need to know which one you have. Try reading info off the motherboard and see if you can figure it out, or try running HWInfo (free) and seeing what it tells you.

no socket 1151 cpus are going into an 1150 mainboard, sorry...

your best bet is to get a specific motherboard model number (or system designation, if a prebuilt) and find from the system or mainboard manufacturer what the supported CPUs are.

There are still some quite competent I7's (4790/4790K, etc)out there for socket 1150, if your BIOS and MB and cooling solution and PSU will accommodate it.

Likely, you could install a I7-4790K on a lga1150 motherboard and get a nice boost.
The 4790K likely can not be overclocked, but even at stock it is still very strong.
But, acer documentation is sparse. Contact Acer directly and ask what processor upgrades are supported.

No. lga1150 and 1151 sockets are not interchangeable.

Just get a 4790k or 4770k (if you can't get the first one) and put a custom cooler on it. That's enough for gaming to beat even the new Intel CPUs. I won't even mention Ryzen because the 4790k mops the floor with it in games.
