Hey All.
My friend(despite my warnings) bought a 850 EVO for 20 bucks off a random guy. Surprisingly, it's a legit drive, but is class 0 locked. I figure it's a longshot, but Samsungs Secure Erase does not work, this sedutil PSID reset won't even start to work on the drive, and I'm SOL. Does anyone happen to know any way to get around it and reset the NAND chips?

FWIW, I bought a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO earlier this summer, and it showed up as "locked" when I tried to clone it using every tool in the box. I upgraded Magician, and also updated the Samsung Data Migration Tool-- no change. BTW, Data Migration Tool will only allow you to upgrade the HD/SSD that you used to boot an OS-- it won't clone a 2nd/non-boot HD/SSD. I also tried a few bootable partition management tools, but nothing allowed me to unlock or use the new EVO. Given the cost of the 1TB model, I was pretty frustrated by not being able to use it.

I contacted Samsung, who informed me that there were no tools available to self-service the drive, and to return it for repair to them or to the place of purchase (amazon). I chose...

·Class 0
Class 0 is the security mode compliant with SATA security feature set in the condition of SED (Self-encrypting Drive) storage drive. SATA security feature set is a password system that restricts access to user data stored on a device. Class 0 can be enabled by setting a security password in BIOS. Yeah read that piece. Also found forum posts deep inside google claiming using the PSID could be used in conjunction with some utility(which of course, every link 404s) and can reset even this garbage.

They provided a URL to fill in the S/N, model, and other essential information, and they provided a UPS shipping label via email after I provided images of the drive's S/N and purchase info.

I sent the drive back to Samsung on Friday, and had a working drive in hand with updated firmware the following Wednesday, no charge. I've installed dozens of Samsung 840 and 850 drives and have never been disappointed with technical performance. Add great customer service to my enthusiastic endorsement of their SSDs.
