New SSD connetion/installation questions

Its been a little over a year since I built my last PC, I need to expand my storage. My motherboard has "SATA Express" connections as pictured here. Now my question, as dumb as it may be is serious. As you can see only the top 3 (out of 6) SATA connections are "express" (I assume because they are highlighted red). The top two slots or two right slots in the picture are already taken by two SSDs that I currently own (looking to add a third).

So my dilemma. As you can see the two slots on the right/top are your typical "L" connection as shown here. So I'm left with the third connection and its just a straight connection. Is this compatible with a typical SSD, for instance this generic one on amazon? This SSD ships with no connectors, so what do I need. I feel like in every SSD I've messed with the "L" is what you find?

I'm sure this is very elementary but I haven't gotten inside my PC for months!

The straight connector is the SATA Express connector. Check this with your motherboard manual, but the two regular SATA connectors next to each SATA Express connector should be an either/or thing. The controller can either handle one SATA Express drives or two SATA drives. Moreover, if you connect to the regular SATA ports, you aren't getting SATA Express anyway.

It doesn't really matter which SATA ports you use on the motherboard, as the SSD drive is just SATA 3 anyway.

It sounds as if you're stating the two straight looking connections are SATA Express, however the motherboard highlights all three of the top connections (two L connections and one straight) as Express is the impression I'm under. So what if I plug the new SSD into one of the bottom three slots? Will I notice a decrease in speeds that I'm used to?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. SATA Express controllers can handle either one SATA Express drive or two SATA 3 drives per controller.

But since your SSD's are SATA, they cannot run at SATA Express speed anyway.
