Hi all,
I've bought the LG 34UM68 monitor, and it came with its own HDMI cable. The thing is, I've had this $50 cable, and used it to connect the monitor. However, the monitor's user manual reads -"make sure to use the provided cable, otherwise this may cause the device to malfunction". Is that possible? Should i just use the cheap looking HDMI cable that came with the monitor?

This is prolly because there are a lot of bad cables out there. By saying "use the cable we gave you" they can avoid issues in the future cable related. This also prevents people returning items because of a 3rd party cable issue by giving them a known good cable

One good example of this is DisplayPort cables. There are indeed "fake" cables around and they seem to sell well. Sometimes they work for some, for others they cause weird issues or damage expensive hardware due to being wired incorrectly. It is bad enough there is a page specifically on how to choose a real one: https://www.displayport.org/cables/how-to-choose-a-displayport-cable-and-not-get-a-bad-one/

I was a victim of this twice before figuring out what was actually happening. For HDMI though I am not sure how common this is.
