If you checked the link in the Sample Build #4 I posted above, you can clearly see the 2x 140mm front intake fans (the Red LEDs) outside the chassis frame (between the front panel and the chassis), while the radiator sits between those LED fans and the stock 120mm radiator fans of Corsair.
What you want to do, comparing with the photo above, is just have the radiator and the front intake fans outside the chassis frame. So, it's just a matter of not installing those 2x 120mm interior fans.
However, take note the some radiator models might not line up perfectly with the case fans installed at the outer chassis frame. For example, the Corsair H110i in these following photos shows you that the screw holes of the radiator would be lower than that of the fans mounted outside the frame:
In this case, you may have to mod (drill) new mounting holes to line the outer fans and the inner rad perfectly.
For the HDD cage, you would definitely have to drill new holes at the bottom (and possibly at the back frame where the cable routing holes are). Allow some gap between the radiator and the cage as well. The main concern with the HDD cage is its clearance with the motherboard and GPU/s you are using (such as the case in the first photo where the HDD cage is too tall to fit below the GPUs).
