Going for a new build for coding and other stuff, wont game.
I generally do web development and android programming. Using two monitors - 1080p and 720p.
i need to record the screen while coding, so is the intel i5 7400 capable of handling 2 displays with screen recording @30fps or do i need ryzen.

for intel - wont be overclocking so i can get i5 7400,7500,7600
for ryzen - will overclock, so any ryzen 3 or ryzen 5.

further, is 8gb ram sufficent or do i need 16gb.

Solution

Should be fine, check these out...

Thanks, is the r3 better than i5, i will still need the gpu for ryzen... can i go for r7 240?
r3 don't have virtualization support, will that be a problem for genymotion software.
I have a max budget of 700usd for the complete pc build.

I am not familiar with that software so I can't say. Hopefully someone else will chime-in.

Saw this on their website:
Genymotion is based on virtualization. Make sure your CPU virtualization technology feature (Intel VT-x or AMD-V) is enabled in your computer motherboard BIOS.

https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/ryzen_3/1200

AMD-V is listed as supported for Ryzen 3

Genymotion helps to create virtual android device on the system like the android emulator of android studio or visual studio.

Thank you, I gathered that. I have just not personally used it before so cannot comment on impacts of certain things on the software.

Based purely on the specs, I see no reason why Ryzen would be an issue and it DOES support virtualization

Thanks for that. Can i go with R7 240 -2GB for the GPU as it is the cheapest available option? The others are rx550 2GB and 1050Ti -4GB but i will need to stretch my budget. I need to support 2 displays 1080p and 720p one with HDMI and other with VGA.

I don't think that should be an issue. The R7 240 2GB should be capable of doing that.

Great, thanks. So now we have ryzen 3 1200, r7 240, asus prime b350m, and 16gb ram, 250gb ssd,450w corsair psu.
with r7 240 now, i have a little budget for some upgrade...should i go for ryzen 5 as more threads will help with faster compilation or any other upgrade.
with my budget i can go as:
Perfect fit
r5 1500X,r7 240 2G,asus prime b350m,2400mhz corsair ddr4,samsung 850evo 250gb,450w corsair,2 monitors 1080p and 720p
Saving some budget
r5 1400,r7 240 2G,asus prime b350m,2400mhz corsair ddr4,samsung 850evo 250gb,450w corsair,2 monitors 1080p and 720p
Further spending
r5 1600,r7 240 2G,asus prime b350m,2400mhz corsair ddr4,samsung 850evo 250gb,450w corsair,2 monitors 1080p and 720p

sticking with r7 240 instead of rx 550 allows me to upto r5 1600 max.

I'd probably go with the 1500X. I think it comes with a beefier cooler than the 1400 and some will say the "X" designation will get you a better binned chip.

I agree about the better binned chips.
i will overclock any ryzen chip so i lose the X advantage anyway.
here in my country
1200 = 140 usd
1300X = 165 usd
1400 = 220 usd
1500X = 245 usd
1600 = 280 usd

are any software which will be gpu demanding? in that case i may need to upgrade gpu instead of going with cpu upgrade.
i mostly use ides from jetbrains, android studio,BB flashback pro recorder,vs code,or general web development,
watch 1080p videos,edit them after screen capture.
16gb will be good for multitasking? any other thing..?

:) this is my first build, used a number of pcs and laptops but never built one.
most of them were outdated within a year or two because i never planned.

Thanks

Sounds like you are almost there. The "X advantage" is the ability (probably) to OC better than other chips.

Certainly the weak link will be the GPU but if you are not gaming and you are running 1080p as a max resolution I think you should be okay.

so i am going from
current hp laptop+extra monitor

  • ■ amd a4 4300m
    ■ 4gb ram
    ■ 500 gb hdd
    ■ 1gb 7670M dGPU+512Mb 7420G iGPU
    ■ 1366*768 + 1280*720

upgrade

  • ■ ryzen 1500X or 1600 or ANY OTHER SUGGESTED
    ■ ASUS PRIME-B350M-A
    ■ 2X8 GB DDR4 2400Mhz Corsair ram
    ■ 250 samsung 850 evo
    ■ 450W psu - Corsair VS 450
    ■ Deepcool Tesseract Bf Mid Tower
    ■ 1080p DELL - SE2216H + 720p hp w15e monitors
    ---my hp monitor has only vga support, so i will be using hdmi for dell and vga for hp, shouldn't be a problem??
    ■ XFX R7 240 2GB DDR3

it is good for android development + recording 1080p monitor @30fps consistent?

further, is the recording + final video exporting using bb flashback software more cpu dependent or gpu dependent?
the link here says that for game recording it is cpu intensive

Thanks for the help, almost done with the build.:bounce:

When it comes to programming CPU is the top priority. It seems Ryzen is better than intel with its more core. This is especially true if the IDE support multi core when compiling. As i don't develop for Android so i'm not sure if Android Studio support multicore usage when compiling since i only use Qt Creator.

Thanks i'll get r5 1600,
There is one more situation i need to handle. Going with the R7 240 2GB DDR3 XFX card which has both HDMI and VGA outs.
i have a old monitor HP w15e which has only VGA port.
i am going to get a new monitor 1080p which is DELL SE2216H, and has both HDMI and VGA connection.

problem: I will use dell as primary monitor and hp as secondary using display extend on windows 10. I am thinking of connecting dell using HDMI and hp using VGA. Google shows there may be some issues. Can't i use both HDMI and VGA at the same time to extend the screen?

PS: the parts link https://in.pcpartpicker.com/list/CJgxzM, didn't get exact model for hp w15e so it shows hp w185e
