What vid card is best for me?

So I have read and read and read about this and I just am looking for some clarification.

I am running 1080p/~144Hz Asus gaming monitor, sans G-Sync. :/

I have a gtx 760 and have been slowly upgrading my system but left the GPU for last, as it was my youngest component. However, this is my first 144Hz monitor and I noticed on day one that my vid card is really struggling to handle the new monitor.

I play the typical AAA games Tomb Raider and GTA etc., WoW, and Overwatch. Obviously the issues, or lack there of, are different for each game.

So my question is: for 1080p/~144Hz gaming, which vid card is going to give me the best performance and future proofing? When I look at GTX 1070's and see I can buy a 1080 for just 75 dollars more in some cases, I wonder what the better option is? Or will just a 1060 6GB work? I haven't even considered AMD GPU's as I am not that familiar with them.

System:
Cpu: Ryzen 5 1600 OC'd to 3.8
Mobo: MSI-X370
Ram: 16GB @ 2800
Storage: Samsung 500GB SSD

Solution
a gtx 1070 would probably get you roughly 120fps or so

a gtx1080 probably do it

though depends how high settings you want

for more future proofing a gtx1080ti

as always it comes down to how much cash you fork out

and the new vega cards from amd arent out very long so until we see some with aftermarket cooling and a few driver updates etc

they might not be at full potential yet

well the issue is ellerium mining. The GTX1070 for $400ish would be the best bang for the buck, but the supply has dried because everyone is using them for mining. with low supply, the prices have soared. hence why you see the 1070 selling for only 75 less than a 1080. If you can afford the 1080, obviously go for that. you wont be disappointed. Otherwise, the 1060 will be a big improvement over your current card, but you still wont be maxing out your monitor in every game. another option could be the new AMD Vega 56 thats coming out. Almost on par with the GTX1070. Initially selling for $400, but that will likely rise.

The GTX 1080 is the minimum choice for 1080p/144Hz, considering the games you play. The GTX 1080 Ti is the "future-proofing" choice, and will allow you to further increase graphics eye-candy especially in GTAV, ROTR, and WoW (Overwatch is not as GPU-intensive as the other games you mentioned and can do well with a GTX 1080, or even a 1070 at slightly lower graphics settings).

The GTX 1060-6GB is not going to cut it at 144fps (except in the likes of CS:GO or LoL).

If you have money to spend, want longevity, and highly prioritize maxed out graphics, get the GTX 1080 Ti.

If you are on a tight budget, and slightly decreasing some graphics settings to achieve 144fps is acceptable to you, the GTX 1080 will suffice.
