I reinstalled Windows 10 on my new 500GB SSD. I used PC for a few days and it seems to work fine (created an image of it as well).

Just now I re-connected my 2TB internal HD and load diskmanagement / file exporer ('this pc'). It does show my 2TB HD, but also has suddenly shown this 'System Reserved'. I have seen this before, I remember it showing when just had hdd in and no SSD, but why is it showing it as a seperate drive? There are 3 now, SSD, HDD and system reserved. > http://imgur.com/a/AuCuM

I would like to wipe my interal HD clean and just use it as storage. How would I go about doing this / does this system reserve matter?

Basically I want> 500GB SSD for OS and softwares | 2TB HDD for storage

Many Thanks

P.S I cant seem to find my pictures/work/softwares with my HDD re-connected...? Am I doing something wrong? Is it not a 'plug in and it will show' kinda thing? I will wipe after but just want to double check a few things

did you only have the ssd connected when you installed windows on the ssd?--if so yes you can format the partitions on 2tb when ready to

if both were connected then no dont format--as the boot record may be on the 2tb

if so guessing the extra partitions are because you had windows installed on the 2tb

and yes should be able to browse it for your pictures etc

Yes I had my HD disconnected when I connected the SSD and installed Windows 10.
Also yes, I did have Windows 10 installed on HDD..and still do as I havent formatted it.

But I cant find any softwares/photos etc. I cant even find my HDD in the BIOS:

It shows it in diskmanagement and as the drive but when I click 'photo' on side of 'File Explorer' nothing appears. I type in a softwares, nothing shows

When I double click the F drive, it just shows folders, I think some are the Windows 10 install ones? http://imgur.com/a/3H4cj

Also you are probably right about the photo situation, but how would I get it to show the photos? And also why are my softwares not showing in Windows 10 start menu?

In my 'Apps and Features' none of my Editing software or games are there :/

Again this is not a MAJOR issue as I will wipe my HDD and reinstall them on my SSD, but I just want to quickly see the photos atleast

I oattempted to open my user name folder but it just took forever, just loading . It never used to do this when I just had my HDD, I was able to open that folder but now it takes forever.

Also, I cant find my HDD in the boot menu. I wont boot from it to check my softwares, but when I have it as 2nd boot order, what one is it called? When I had BIOS as 'legacy' mode, it shows it as 'Seagate..something'.

Well I open the folder and it says "you don't have permission to access this folder, click continue to permanently access this folder'. I click continue and just loads forever, even the png/jpg doesnt work. Its fine, I am just going to go ahead and wipe it.

In Disk Management, where it says 'Disk 1' , do I right click the partitions > http://imgur.com/a/8nSHH < (with the red dot) and select 'Format' or 'Delete'? And then I am left with 1 big partition of 2TB?

Probably dont need to post this but I click yes? http://imgur.com/a/k7UEC
This is the main part of my internal HD. Not sure what of it is still 'in use' as my PC boots my SSD
Just need confirming :p

thats ok it takes as long as it takes

always better than just rushing in

should be able to delete the recovery one too

then ready to make your new 1 large partition for storage

Ok I successfully delete the recovery partition using diskpart. There is 1 big fee empty space which is great.

This is probably preference but when I click 'New Simple Volume' for my HD, do I just use the whole 2TB as 1 partition? or is it best to make different ones? It will just be a backup so?

totally up to you--i just do 1 big partition then folders for different stuff--ie music--photos etc

you can partition it up but may make things a bit more complex at a later date as will have load more drive letters to deal with

ye, I think all is good.
I made 1 whole partition. Change photo, video, download etc directory to my HD (although I presume even though the download installer goes to my HD, its 'installed' on my SSD right?

Thanks for the help, looks like after weeks of stress and torment I think I am finally set to use my PC and download it as if its clean and fresh. Hopefully all goes well.

Many thanks again
