I was considering a 1050 TI but jack why do say it's not a good buy? What do you guys think of a GeForce GT 1030??
When looking at how GFX cards sit in the price niche, you look at how they do against the competition. From the 1060 on up, AMD doesn't have a horse in the race, the main reason being the overclocking headroom that nVidia has and AMD doesn't. Up against the RX 570, the 1050 Ti just couldn't compete. However now that the mining craze has arrived again, the 570 prices are in the stratosphere.
In gaming, the 1060 is 74% faster than the 1050 Ti. That's by far the biggest jump between any price tier and is even bigger than any 2 jumps above it.
Here's the gaming performance at 1080p
Dues Ex: Mankind 24.00
Anno 2205 25.20
Total War:WH 29.30
Witcher 3 36.20
AC Syndicate 36.60
F1 37.70
No Man's Sky 38.00
COD:BO3 39.20
RoTR 41.60
Far Cry Primal 42.00
Hitman 46.40
Doom 50.60
Fallout 4 52.90
Just Case 3 55.20
BF4 59.70
GTAV 62.80
Batman AK 66.30
Rainbow 6:Siege 73.70
Now divide by 4 for 4k ... your average fps is about 11 fps.
Right now, panel technology is limited to an extent that I would not consider gaming at 4k. Once those panels arrive (estimated 1Q 2018) ... if using one, ya'd want twin 1080 Tis for gaming.
I know ya said you don't do heavy gaming but this means essentially no gaming . Best you will see in non-demanding games like Rainbow 6:Siege is 21 fps
For movies, the 1050 Ti should do just fine, but then so does the IGP in the CPU (@ 4k / 60 fps) ... for gaming, in Rainbow6, you should get up to 36 fps w/ a 1060
A 1030 would work but can't say it will do anything (that you'd notice) your 7700k's built in IGP won't do.
