streaming Optimum TV keeps buffering

I have a TRENDnet AC1200 WAP in a room adjacent to my bedroom and when I try to watch Optimum TV on my laptop I frequently get the "buffering" message. It is a long run of CAT5 (not CAT5e or CAT6) wire from the router in my basement to the WAP (with two non-gigabit switches in between). Is this my bottleneck or is it the WAP range? Just looking for a place to start so any advice would be appreciated.

No the FCC limits the output on all wireless radios for indoor use at the same level.

You will get much better results using a pair of AV2-1000 powerline adapters. HERE is a very good site for comparing models. And if you need wireless for the stream you can place an access point very near to that point attached to the router via the PL adapters.

If you are using 5GHz (N or AC) try switching to 2.4GHz, which penetrates matter (like walls) much better than the higher frequency. If all else fails, run an Ethernet cable to the WAP if it has a free port.

As long as the CAT5 cable run is less than 328 feet that is very unlikely an issue, as Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) is more than sufficient for video streaming. And you can easily test the cable by disconnecting it from the WAP and attaching it to your laptop.

I was using the 2.4 GHz channel so that's not the issue. Are there stronger WAPs available than the TRENDNet AC1200? Should I look into a wireless bridge that would plug into the wall in the hallway between the office and the bedroom? It really isn't THAT far from the office to the bedroom but there are walls are doors in the way.

I would still need to install a second WAP in the bedroom off the powerline adapter, right?
