Corsair Certified Refurbished PSU?

I have very recently discovered that my PSU is a Tier 3 unit. I have an EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1, which I apparently did not research before purchasing...

I have learned a lot about power supplies since that time but have not been successful in deciding on a replacement. I don't want to spend an insane amount but quality is important.

CPU: AMD FX-8370 @ 4.56GHz
GPU: XFX Radeon RX 580 GTR-S 8GB @ 1500MHz / 2200MHz
Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R.0
RAM: 2x8GB ADATA XPG V3 @ 2132MHz 10-11-11-30
DRIVES: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm, WD Black 2TB 7200rpm
UPS: APC Back-UPS Pro 1300

Under load, I have not seen the readout on my UPS break 500W, so I am thinking of sticking with a 650W unit but would appreciate your recommendations on something specific.

I have been looking around and found a refurbished Corsair Certified RM650i for like half price. After just going though an RMA and getting a "refurbished" graphics card in return for my new one I am thinking maybe this is a pretty sweet deal.

Am I just being cheap or should I go for it?

Honestly the warranty is the only thing I really consider.
If the unit was just as high quality as a new unit, it should have the same length warranty right? The shorter warranty is corsair saying "Hey, it will work fine, but we wont say how long".

That being said, RMA quality can vary depending on the unit itself.
If youre planning to spend 100CAD on a PSU, dont go with a refurb

Does the 80+ rating reflect at all on component quality or is it purely marketing wank?

The 80+ rating has nothing to do with quality, as evident by the less than ideal G1 unit having a gold rating.
It strictly refers to efficiency under load, but that is not high on the list of things to consider. I would much rather run a high quality bronze unit over a cheap gold+ (In fact, I am doing exactly that).

On a budget, component quality is the number one priority.

I fully agree with that. Unfortunately, I bought this PSU based on branding and didn't research it which goes completely against the grain for me. I was rushing to get a system together for my brother and just grabbed it b/c it was EVGA and Gold...

I should have known better!

Ya, I definitely agree with that and I don't think I'd mind paying more for an extra 9 years of warranty. I am just still not sure if I am being oversensitive about needing to upgrade.

I have been having GPU problems and am about to do the second RMA on my RX 580 (probably) so I got scared when I started seeing all of the negative stuff about the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650G (G1)

The power supply should work fine until it dosent, which could be next week, or 10 years from now.
If you have the money right now, you can replace it with a more quality unit (like the two listed) and never realistically have to worry again.
Or, if you dont have the cash, it should hold out until you can replace it.

In terms of it's badness, is the poor 12v regulation dangerous for my components or just will result in stability issues and poor OC? If it DOES fail, is it going to take other things with it?

Thanks dude. I feel a bit less concerned knowing that.

I had to RMA my RX 580 because it couldn't do the factory OC and now I am having different issues with the replacement (won't connect at PCIe x16). Is there any possible way that could be related to the PSU?

That's what I was thinking, but I am being paranoid now...

Thanks for the advice
